There's a lot of misinformation out there... Here is an official response on 6/29/2018 from the Forsyth County Division Manager of Code Enforcement when asked about the legality of keeping chickens in the county.

Currently chickens are only allowed in agriculture zoned parcels, and are not permitted in commercial or residential zoned parcels.
If on agriculture zoned parcel there is no limit to the number of chickens. Permitted residential uses found in Unified Development Code UDC chapter 11, table 11.1 & table 11.2.

A chicken coop may require a building permit depending on size (UDC 7-2.1), it would be required to meet a minimum setback requirement of 100' from property line. (Unified Development Code UDC 16-4.22)

The UDC can be found on the county web page www.forsythco.com under how can I tab.

To lookup your property and see how it's zoned, feel free to search Google for the "Forsyth County Georgia | Board of Assessors - Property Record Search" website which is currently hosted on qPublic.

Warm regards,
