Just came back from a trip to New Orleans and enjoyed the following story in the local paper, the Times Picayune. http://www.nola.com/food/index.ssf/2010/07/urban_farming_thrives_in_parts.html Then when searching for the story online, I found another about a workshop in the area in 2009 promoting and teaching about keeping backyard chickens! http://blog.nola.com/judywalker/2009/04/two_chickenraising_workshops_a.html This was put on by the New Orleans Food and Farm Network. I am not familiar with them, but they have a nice website and seem to have the mission of promoting locally and home grown food. http://www.noffn.org/ Maybe their approach and experience would be helpful to others trying to get cities to permit backyard poultry.
