We have our hens in a temporary shelter under the trampoline while we build our coop (it's such a long story, but the short stick is we aren't irresponsible, someone else was & here we are making the best of it). We've made them as comfortable as we can, but I'm concerned about the cold weather tonight.

We've turned a cooler on its side and propped the lid open with a 50 gallon bucket and put the nesting box and some pine shavings in there. Hey, MacGyver, right? Use what you've got. When I just went out to check on them, all 4 are snuggled up together in there. It'll stay dry, but what about warm? Is 34 too cold? Should I round them up into a dog kennel & put them in the garage?

    On the MN prairie.

As long as they're dry and out of the wind, they should be fine.
