Moline, Illinois
Hello, my name is Brieana. After years of dreaming and a huge concerted effort, a backyard chicken ordinance in Moline, Illinois was passed last night!

My husband and I signed up for a course on backyard chickens at our local community college, which is happening tonight! Taking this class is a requirement to get our chicken permit from the city.

I am so excited to finally be able to get chickens! I'm a vegan and I want to adopt some spent laying hens to keep purely as pets.

I haven't done a lot of research because I didn't want to get my hopes up until the law was finally in the books (there has been a LOT of negativity in our city about the ordinance). So now comes the research part.

I can't wait to learn more about keeping chickens!

Enjoy keeping chickens and BYC!

Thanks for the welcome messages, everyone. Our chicken class last night was fantastic and now I'm more excited than ever to have chickens!!!!!!!!!!! I've been looking at coop plans and trying to decide how big we want it to be. We don't have a fence around our property and we're on a corner lot, so I'm thinking we might have to build a fence around our yard too. Ah well, whatever I need to do to get my chickies!
