is it ok to raise chickens in the same pen as turkeys? Pros and cons?
Raising chickens and turkeys together can be risky because chickens can transmit a disease called Blackhead to turkeys. In addition, the larger turkeys may become aggressive towards the smaller chickens. I personally would not recommend doing it.
Quote:X2 I agree with the blackhead disease risk, unfortunately there will be many more who will totally disregard this advice and raise them together. Whether it be their inability or unwillingnes to make seperate pen's, or they just don't care they will raise them together. Some will have no problems but will never know until their turkey's begin to fall ill.
I wondered about that disease, seems I heard about it before. So glad that I know before i go and get some. It will be easy to separate them. I am going to use the plamondon hut house. So easy to build and moveable too. Thanks for the info.
heres another I was wondering. will ducks and chickens do okay, or turkeys and ducks or do i need to raise them all separately.
