Hi again, still trying to find where I post my questions, feel like I am in the wrong window, but will try asking a question and hope to get a reply only because I feel I am in the wrong place for questions.
Were getting ready to build our chicken coop, this is Florida, so were trying to keep it under trees for shade. There is a security light that would light up the area of the chicken coop. Will that interfere with there cycles. Don't want them to be laying continuously, have only four chickens, Rhode Island reds. Just wondering if they will go in there coops at night to sleep or will the security light interfer.
    Thanks, Chickidi

For a while you'll need to "teach" the chickens to go in at night if you are going to free range. If the birds are going to be in a run, the chickens will figure it out on their own. Some kind of curtain over the window will prevent the light from interfering. If you look at the top of this page you will find the word "forum". If you go there it will show you where to post for the most effectiveness.

Hi and welcome to BYC. In my experience, a security light will likely encourage a roo to crow at all hours, but your girls will be fine as long as the light is not shining into the coop (i.e. you use curtains etc).

    All the best
