chicks dead

    something got inthe coop and killed at least 15 of my 20 chicks.Some them are just dead,some half eaten,mama was out in the yard in the dark and 5 babies I found outside as well in the dark long distance from the coop all in different locations.I get home from work at 12am and check on them and lock up the coop too late damage arleady done.I am really upset special little bantam chicks I hatched.

    I'm sorry for your loss, thats enough to get anyone into chickens upset.Maybe you can set a live trap and see if you can catch the offender.Chances are the critter will be back.
    I know its hard when you work hours that don't allow you to secure your girls at dusk. Maybe you can get some kid from around the neighborhood to close your girls up for you around dusk, give him/her a few bucks a week...? Again, sorry for your loss...
