I noticed today that 3 of my last batch of chicks (they are about 2 months old) have their eyes closed. I believe they are roosters, and they are free range. They don't seem to have any other problems. What should I do?
Have there been any signs of respiratory disease in the flock (sneezing, runny noses, chest rattles, watery or foamy eyes?) How is the ammonia odor in your coop? Ventilation is very important for preventing respiratory disease or eye irritation. You can try some eye wash or Neosporin ointment in there eyes 1/8 of an inch in each eye. Also I would start them on some vitamins in case of a vitamin A deficiency.
It is well ventilated, and I have not seen any signs of resperatory problems. I will try the neosporin. I thought maybe the roosters were pecking the eyes.thanks
