Chicks hitting puberty

Does anyone know roughly when a cockerel hits puberty?

As my broody hen was walking about the yard quite happily this morning when to my horror, she got set upon by her 8 week old chick!

Suffice to say she has now disowned him and started to lay again.

I didn't think my chicks would be sexually active at 8 weeks old!

Is he actually likely to be able to fertilise eggs? Or is it more likely he is just going through the actions?

Nature is weird.

Juveniles turn at about 12 to 15 weeks but that doesn't mean that like kids he is not experimenting or feeling his oats per se. Make him go in the corner and count 1 and 2 and 3 can I come out for flashing and playing with the next door girl mommy.

Next door girl may have been acceptable. However he was "playing" with his own Mum.

Im not too sure about roosters, but i know hens start laying anywhere between 6 months and a year old. My leghorn rooster started crowing at about 4 or 5 months, but i dont know if he became sexually active then. He definately is now tho haahah

I was just wondering i i had some sort of new super productive chicken. But looks like i've just got a teenage roo.
