Hello,
I currently have my three week old chicks in a nice brooder box my son made me. The chicks are in my home, but my puppy has taken a huge interest in them. I would like to put them in my coop at night. I don't have a brooder big enough for 17 chicks to put inside my coop ( I had no idea 17 out of 23 would hatch.). Can I put them inside the coop at night then move them to the brooder box, which is in the chicken yard during the day (day temps. 80-100 degrees). The evening temps. are around 50-60 degrees. Do I need a heat source? What would you recommend? I have heard heat lamps are dangerous.

At 3 weeks old, you can wean them off heat the next few days while keeping them inside the house, then move them out to the coop permanently by week 4, depending on what the temperatures look like of course.
