A few of my chicks are losing some fluff on their backs, but feathers are not growing in yet (about a quarter size portion). Is it common for 3 week olds to look this pitiful? They are half feathers and half fluff now with an occasional bald spot.[IMG]

    Thanks, Lori

    Hi Lori!

    Welcome to BYC! [IMG]

Yes, it's common and normal for chicks to look pitiful at around 3 weeks of age.

Here's a pic from last year of one of our Silkies looking scary...

Hoping this makes you feel better!

Make sure your not over crowding them either. Wait until you see them molt  for the first time.

Thanks Dawn! I'm glad to know my chicks are not abnormal.

I was just worried about the same thing. Thanks for asking about it.And my little 3wk.old seems to do some cleaning and picking at areas where feathers are coming in.Like on her legs she has fluff and feathers starting.
