Have to tell about latest two chicks we bought. Feed store only had a few chicks left, some day old brown leghorns and some 4 week old delawares. A delaware had hopped into the leghorn's area and was living comfortably with the little ones. We picked out a leghorn and the delaware. At home each time we reach in, the delaware protects the leghorn and at night the little one sleeps up against the delaware's back with the delaware's wing over it like a blanket. Nothing showing but a little brown head. Absolutely darling.

I had a 2 month old Crele bantam cockerel that would do that with a month old chick who lost her mama. Even after he is able to fly up to the rafters and roost with the other chickens, he still sits on top of the nests, so Nugget can snuggle with him. Very sweet. They surpirse us at times, don't they?
