My chicks are officially 1 month old and seem to be fully feathered (see pic). Their coop and run are ready. Can they be moved outdoors permanently?

yes as long they are safe from other hens. Some hen will peck on them thats will be ok, babies will learn to run from them ! You will have to help them find their way back to the coop at night. they will learn fast ! My one month old chickies knows how to sit on roost the first night !

Thanks for the quick reply. These are my first chicks, so there are no other hens to worry about. It's still cool here (in the 60's at night), so I wanted to make sure they would be ok.

The coop and run are pretty secure. Not too worried about predators at this point. More worried about the transition from indoors to outdoors and the cool weather.

I went with a prefab coop, secured with a solid base lined with hardware mesh. Nothing will dig under or break through to my chicks.

Wow, I love that coop! Yes, I agree, they should be fine to go outside now. Mine have been out for a while at that age and always have done just fine.

Nice work with the predator proofing on your new coop. [IMG]

Well, I don't think they are ready Hawks, foxes, snakes and other predators could easily come in and kill them. When they are atleast 2-3 months old they will probuly be ready.
