Our two 2 week old chicks have spent the last hour ripping up the newspaper which lines their brooder and which is covered with a thick layer or wood shavings. is this behaviour anything I should worry about - boredom, stress, hunger? Or is it just normal chicken behaviour?! They seem happy and healthy to me, but I am a complete beginner when it comes to chickens.

When mine started doing that about the same age I removed the paper and just put in the wood shavings, after ripping the paper to shreds they might try eating it and I don't think it would be healthy.

It's normal, they're learning to scratch for food. [IMG]
