Chicks staying chicks

How long do chicks stay Chicks? How long before they start making chicken sounds instead of chick sounds? I bought 3 last weekend and I was just wondering.

Typically their voice starts to change around 10 weeks. YMMV based on breed and strain, and nutrition/time of year.

Yes, some breeds take 16 weeks to mature. Some 10. Some 36. Some almost a year...

I have a gold sex link and three Black Laced Silver Wyandottes.
I got them at 3 months old and they were still peeping.
(My neighbor’s broody hen was raising them)
It took another month to six weeks before they stopped.
I’ve noticed my sex link has matured faster.
She’s 21 weeks and just started laying this week.
Her wattles and comb also reddened and become larger faster than the others.
The Wyandottes are still maturing with regards to their combs.
One of my Wyandottes has matured much slower. She was the last to stop peeping and is the lowest in the pecking order.
I too wondered when they stopped peeping and started clucking lol.
My neighbor has had chickens for years and couldn’t tell me.

They do grow fast. Too fast. I cherish when they are small and cute and don't consume 50 lbs of feed per month
