Awwwe what a cutie!!!! Very good job with the chickie care. Nilla looks great now!

Ok Freebird how are your little guys doing?

And J-Skittles how is your baby doing?

HenPen and mine seem to be doing fine now. It was like they werent done developing yet and just needed a little time, extra care and a lot of patience. It's seems to me like they were just premies. Hatched out a little to early.

Update please.

Thanks!

Freebird lost all her babies...I sent a private PM and she said they did not make it.

I think Nilla was def a premie s/he is still the littlest chick but fiesty as can be...I am still bracing my other baby(Cocoa Puff's) legs and I pray s/he will be ok vet said ifno improvement by Friday I should cull.....I think I will be a mess if I have to do that I have grown so attached with all the extra care.

Do you have a pict of Coco Puff? What type of leg problem? Splay? I always try and do everything I can before putting anything down. The health needs to be very bad. Because if he is plugging along well and improving even just slightly.........it is improvement!

Ok you need to send a pict!

actually brought her to the vet today and we are going to keep treating as long as she keeps fighting which she is....First I thought it was a slipped tendon, went through what I read on other posts to do but nothing helped so I have been slowly straightening it and finally got it straight and s/he can bend it but now she holds it straight out to the side and does not open the foot so now she has a chick boot on and her legs taped like you do to correct splay.I cried my eyes out the first day I put the boot on and taped her legs because she was so upset with it...she doesn't cry about it she just gets frustrated hopping around but she is still fighting so I will fight with her....I will try and post her picture tomorrow.

I apologize for the delay posting an update...Coco Puff's leg was not improving, the joint started to swell and her leg was starting to twist almost as if it was on backwards, several times she fell head first into the water and even tho it was shallow and full of marbles she could not get herself out and I was afraid if she fell in when I was not home she would surely drown so with all things consider on her quality of life and with a heavy heart I had her put to sleep on 5/15 ....Nilla aka Nilla the Killa is thriving and has moved into the brooder with the other chicks that s/he hatched with...althought there is a big difference is size s/he is doing well.

Oh my! I am so sorry. Poor thing. Yes, quality of life is a big issue. You made the best choice for Co Co Puff. You are a good mother hen. Thank you for the update.
Best of luck with Nilla and the rest of the chickies!
Nilla the Killa.......that is tooo cute!!!

Nilla is about 1/3 the size of the others and does NOT let them push him/her around...its teh funniest thing I will post pics in a few weeks to see what everyone thinks for breed & sex.
