chicks vs adults

I am getting back into raising chickens. Before I purchased 5 1-year old chickens from a local who had too many birds on her hands. I am on the fence right now as whether to purchase adult hens or chicks.

What are the pros and cons to selecting one over the other?

Raising chicks is great fun, and the way to tame them, if you are interested in that. But -- you need a separate area for them to grow to adult size, for the safest integration. If this happens to be relatively simple for you, maybe stretch a piece or two of chicken wire across existing space, then it's really personal preference. There are so many factors - whether you have the time to monitor chicks, whether you can get all or mostly female chicks (if that matters) -- and so forth.
