chics with mites or lice

I bought some chics at an auction last week and it appears to me that they are doing more grooming than normal can . what does the lice or mites look like . and if turns out to be one or the other whats the best way to treat for it. Thanks

It seems like the most popular remedies for lice & mites are poultry dust or Sevin 5%. There is also a liquid that you can put on their skin.
I'm not sure it is OK to use on chicks. How old are they?

the chics are a 5 weeks old , they now have feathers

5% sevin dust is safe for them. Just be sure to get it under the feathers to the skin.

Check around the vent, through the fluff under the vent, the base of the tail feathers, and under the wings for any egg sacks or any tiny specks that move. Lice is larger and easier to see.

Easy way to check for someone with bad eyes: Take a white towel. Put chicken/chick in towel. Mess with them and rub them with the towel. Remove bird and inspect towel for moving spots or red or black.
