Although many bird owners call "button quail" Chinese Painted" it's incorrect..."Button Quail" have been officially been classified as Chinese Blue-Breasted Quail many years earlier...

Because so many bird watchers were not experienced enough, the Chinese Blue-Breasted Quail were referred as Painted Quail, Bush Quail, or Harlequin Quail...They in fact have been OFFICIALLY classified as Chinese Blue Breasted Quail for many years...spread the information, let others know about these precious little birds. They deserve the correct information about them [IMG]

I am in the mood of presenting these birds and respect their monogamous nature and cute little personalities. Long live the Chinese Blue-Breasted Quail!

I wonder why so many people call them buttons, you would think people would know the correct name...

They are not even button quail! LOL

There are 3 species of button quail, TRUE button quail

The Small Button Quail ( Turnix sylvatica)
    Yellow-Legged Button Quail (Turnix tani)
Barred Button Quail ( Turnix suscitator)

Why we call our little boogers button quail? The confusion started in the 1900s when they were just thrown in the coturnix category and were just "cute as a button" when soldiers brought them home to their families....because obviously all quail are quail....when in fact they are Excalfactoria chinensis....

Button quail is probably more of a pet name sort of thing. Somewhere in our minds we know it's not correct, but it's become the name for them and a widely accepted, though not politically correct, name it is too.[IMG]

Look at the Sparrowhawk(Kestrel) which is indeed a type of falcon, the koala bear which is not a bear, and the many other unfortunately named animals.

No one really seems to know what Chinese Blue Breasted quail are. Unfortunately using button quail is the only way to get 95% of folks attentions
