I started with 2 chickens which i have had for over a year, i am now wanting to add more and i like the idea of having a variety of breeds, over the summer i have hatched ixworth (english breed), light sussex, silkies and currently have a mixture of bantam eggs in the bator. I would like to know what breed/breeds lay the dark brown, chocolate coloured eggs, i love the idea of having these [IMG]

Marans, Welsummers, Penedesenca are the ones I know about. Here are the Marans eggs I received in the mail today.

Black Copper Marans lay the darkest I think. Welsummers lay nice eggs also.

Barnevelders too, I believe. I saw a post in another forum about them.
