My dear dh built me a small separate pen for my chooks. So far we have had them out in the coop in a cage for one week now without any additional heat. With all the shavings they did fine. They were 3 weeks old when they were put in the coop in a cage. They will be 4 weeks old tomorrow. I wrapped a tarp around their cage when the nights were cool but that was all they got. I believe these little ones will be very hardy.
Dh found an old aluminum storm door frame that still had hinges on it and used it for a light-weight top for me to open very easily. He also has a movable light in there that can easily be put over the large pen or the small one. He made up the small one on the end in case I would have some different ages or a couple little ones that would need to be separated from the others. They loved their new digs, lots of jumping and chest butting going on and they finally have a little roost for themselves.
