Hi Everybody, I am new here and a newbie to Chickens, but here I am building my 4x8 coop. I got the plans off of Ana White's website, a mom/homesteader from Alaska. site is http://ana-white.com/2012/05plans/shed-chicken-coop . I modified it a bit as my windows are from our house, an 1894 Folk Victorian that we are restoring. Still need to add the nesting boxes. I am expecting my chickens to arrive 2/20, 5 Amerucana, 5 Silver Laced Wyandotte, and 5 Rhode Island Reds. A little nervous about taking care of thesse tiny peepers for the first month, as I will have to keeep them sequestered in my office, as I have 3 dogs - thus no chickens - chomp! Just worried they may die on me. I am in Eastern North Carolina, so the weather is warming up and should be able to have them out in the coop by the end of March. We are a start-up micro-farm, Enchanted Gardens. Veggies, fruit, eggs, and by next year, honey. Right now after the cost of building this coop, ($600) and the fencing and feed etc., my ladies are in debt and need to start producing eggs quickly! I want these chickens to be fed as natural as possible..any suggestions? Have a great day y-all!
