What the heck? I thought they took like 24 days or something? I know my thermometer isn't off by that much! I have 2 or 3 that are pipped, are they like goose and ducks, and pip up to 2 days early? Or am I gonna wake up to some baby chukars??

That can't be it. Not only do I swap out thermometers often, but I had some coturnix quail just hatch on day 18 as expected, and I had a turkey just hatch, also right on time.

I now have 3 babies, with 4 or 5 more eggs pipped. I think that one of the ones that was pipped to begin with is still not hatched, but I was going to help and it still has blood in the veins. Do they pip and wait for a while, or should they pop out like quail do?

ETA: 23 days would have been today, and 1 was hatched this morning, the other 2 hatched sometime today.

THEY ARE A GAMEBIRD, ITS USUALLY A MASS EXODUS AND QUICK TOO.

CANT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT TURKEY, BUT COTURNIX ARE THE ROACHES OF THE QUAIL WORLD--- THEY CAN WITHSTAND DANG NEAR ANYTHING! YA GOTTA LOVE THAT!

Yes I do, quite often actually. Idk what their deal is, but they aren't dead yet. I'll go in a bit and see about helping the one to hatch, I don't know what to do with the other ones that are just tiny pips. All of my thermos read about the same, give or take .2-.5 degrees. The humidity readings on them vary more, but it's still not too much.

Okay, I just checked them. Out of the 8 eggs left in the bator, 1 quit before pipping, looks like it was right before. 1 pipped the air cell and died, didn't pip the shell. 1 pipped the shell and died. So there are 5 eggs with live chicks in them. I was slowly picking some of the shell away, and they all still have quite a bit of blood in the veins?? I wrapped each of them up in a warm wet paper towel, and will check them again tomorrow. It's almost like it's too early for them? Which makes no sense, since the turkey and the coturnix all hatched on time

ETA: And the 3 others hatched on time as well.

Shelly, I haven't hatched any Chukars, although I would LOVE to know where to get some eggs from, BUT i have hatched a few pheaseants and for some reason they take over a day to hatch after they pip. I have raised a few chukars for meat before and I find they act more like the pheaseants than the quail. They are much larger and much more flighty and cannabalistic. They need plenty of room.

Jenlyn, there is one person on here that lists some semi-often. Their screen name is steelshot. CUDA also has some.

I ended up having 6 total hatch, 3 of which I 'helped'. The last one hatched last night. I woke up this morning to find 2 of them dead. Hopefully the others won't die, that would really suck. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
