clean legged Marans

I have Cuckoo eggs ordered. I want them for meat and eggs, but now I am hearing that the Black Copper are much meatier. Have you butchered any of yours, and if so how meaty are they?

Well they aren't Tyson, but they have some meat on the bones. I have not had any black coppers,so I can't speak for those, but mosy of my boys are faitly large.

I have bred and used the meat from the black copper, blue copper, wheatens and the cuckoos in black and gold.
I notice I get more and better meat from feather legged Marans than clean legged, no matter what variety. I suspect that the clean legged have too much "American" influence to keep the bird from maturing into a good meat bird. I am sure you will get some good meat but we didn't think the quality or quantity was nearly as good. Just our humble opinion, of course.

Hmmm... I guess I'll be adding feather legged Black and Blue Copper to try this year, too.
