How often do you have to clean a brooder? Once a week? Also, you clean it by dumping out the pine shavings and then scrubbing it clean, right?

It all depends upon the number of birds in the brooder. Realistically whenever it becomes wet or stinky.

I clean mine out every time I cycle out/in a new batch of chicks. About every 2 weeks or so. I scoop it out, sweep it out really good. Then mix up some warm bleach water in garden sprayer and soak in down good. Especially the cracks and corners. That's where most of the bacteria hangs out.
