Are you talking about general cleaning or sanitizing?

We have a Playhouse Coop and the bottom has a 2-3 layer of pine shavings. Once a week I just pick out the poo to compost it and the toss the shavings in a differentcompost pile because they take a long time to break down. The flat surfaces are scraped with a brush to remove dried poo.

The top layer of dirt in the run is scraped up and a fresh layer put down.

DE gets sprinkled on everything. This plan has worked pretty well but then we only hve three.

We use straw inside and out and we just rake it up and re-do the layer on the ground. We also compost it for our fruit trees. Some weeks they poop WAY more than others too. I have been lucky, my ladies all seem to pee outside....

I 'poo pick' almost daily, using a dust pan and putty knife. I have heard of others wearing rubber gloves to pick it up.

    Step 1. Remove chickens.

    Step 2. Shovel out litter.

Step 3. Power wash and deck brush with a bleach/water solution.

    Step 4. Air dry.

    Step 5. Insert clean litter.

    Step 6. Insert chickens.

Hoosier, I use the same method...but now I'm using a old spatula. It has a longer handle.

I have a droppings box covered covered with 1/2 inch wire cloth that is below the roosts. I use a hoe to scrape the excess droppings into the box 1x/wk. The box below is filled with straw, once I hoe the droppings down I cover them and the now cleaned wire cloth with DE. I clean the box out every month in the winter, every other in the summer.
