Clipping chicks wings?

New to chicken-ing! We have a few 8week old Buff Orphingtons that have started to hop onto the nesting box roof, about 4ft off the ground. I'm worried about them hopping our 5ft fence. Can I clip an 8 week olds flight feathers?

You can but 1) you'll need to keep reclipping as feathers get molted and regrow, which happens a few times as chicks reach maturity and 2) you need to avoid clipping any blood feathers.
