So I just hatched out some chicks. One of the 6 chicks has a foot that doesn't work right - the toes stay curled. The leg seems to work alright and there does not seem to be a deformity in it. So we did this *see pic*
We tried a bandaid and a thicker piece of cardboard but that would not stay on.
Does what we did look alright?
and...
Does anyone know what causes this?
Thanks!

It can be genetic, it could have happened in the shell, or it could be a vitamin deficiency, particularly from Riboflavin. I suggest doing exactly what you're already doing, but adding a b-complex tablet to the water. B-vitamins can do a lot for a chick.

If you want to ready more, check out poultry podiatry. It's a great site.

Good luck.

I've used the adhesive part of a band aid, top & bottom but need to be very careful when changing. Have you tried sandwiching the toes straight between vet wrap?

2x sylviethecochin, you could also feed the baby vitamin PolyVisol w/out iron, 3 drops per day, mix some boiled egg yolk in it's feed.

Forgot to mention, put a drop of PolyVisol w/out iron on the side of the beak. Be prepared to smell like PolyVisol after, I got more on me than the chick the first time. Yes, the adhesive part of the band aid works good but careful when removing, some really stick.
