Does anyone have an suggestions for a good book, or other resource to learn about raising chickens in an suburban area.

How do I get more informed about this venture that I want to start.

    I like two books....
Storey's guide to Raising Chickens, which is very complete.
    Keep Chickens! by Barbara Kilarski

But most especially, I recommend the good folk here at BYC. This group is endlessly patient with newcomers, and there are thousands of pages of coops, raising chicks, flock management, etc.

    by the way....[IMG]

I agree wholeheartedly with mom'sfolly!! [IMG] I have nothing against books to learn about chicken raising but it seems to me, as books lay out every possible problem that might occur with chickens, that it can be very intimdating to the beginner. Don't get me wrong - all the things in those books is useful but some of the information is somewhat obscure or so rare that the beginning poultry raiser might think, "Whoa! This is more complicated than I thought...maybe chickens aren't for me afterall." But on BYC you can learn all the information that is in the books but it is tempered with many real life accounts. Plus, you can ask questions tailored to your needs as you begin to build your knowledge base. I wish you well, be it with books, BYC, or both!!

    Hi and :welcome

There's a pretty good Keeping chickens for Dummies book; Rob, one of the admins of BYC, is one of the writers.

Or else just post your questions here, there are lots of people who can help you out.

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D
