I have a pen of adolescent chicks, about 2.5 months old that is struggling with coccidiosis. (Fecal testing confirmed moderate coccidi.) My question is how to get rid of it when they keep relapsing with blood in their stools?

About 3-4 weeks ago, I noticed one pullet have a very bloody stool, that was basically just blood. 😢. I immediately started them all on corid water (10ml/gal) for 5 days. Then I switched them to vitamin water for several days. Well, the sick one died the next morning (so, before mediation had been going for even 24 hours) but the rest are still alive. But I started seeing little spots of blood in the stools again… so I researched more and saw that I stopped the medicine too soon. So I put them on a second 5 day 10ml corid round, followed by 6 days of 2.5ml/gal water. They got off that this Monday, 2 days ago. They are on vitamin water right now. And last night I saw more blood specks in the stool! What should I do now???

I’m not sure, but I think one is acting a bit more tired than the rest, but most are still acting normal. I really don’t want to lose any more of them! Help!

When you see blood in the stools, it means the intestines are inflamed and bacteria has very likely taken hold. In other words, you are fighting against bacterial infection at the same time you are fighting coccidiosis.

A sulfa antibiotic is needed as it can target best that bacteria. The fastest way to get the drug is to get a vet to prescribe it. then you can get it right away and get started. But if a vet isn't an option, order it here. https://jedds.com/products/trimethoprin-sulfa-medpet?_pos=1&_sid=83dcb7a2a&_ss=r

Meanwhile, do the drench dose with the sicker birds. You use .1ml undiluted Corid liquid per pound directly into the beak once a day for the next three days in addition to the Corid in the water.

When the sulfa comes, you may add that into the Corid water.
