Coccidiosis or Mareks?

Hi BYCers,

One of my 20 week old Egyptian Fayoumis has been acting really strange today. She is very listless and has been falling over on her side. Usually she is positively hateful and won't let me come within six feet of her (permanent social distancing lol), but today I could get close enough to touch her. Does this sound like possible coccidiosis or Mareks to you (or something else)? I'm attaching two photos, but don't know how to upload video.

Context: We have Mareks in our flock, although this chick and all but two of her flock mates has had the Mareks and coccidiosis vaccine (which I know are both not 100% effective). One of our Phoenixes had coccidiosis several months ago and we treated all of the chicks and chickens with Corid. Either way, should I separate her from the flock? Our EFs are flighty and would completely freak out if I put them in a crate.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Okay...hard call as you have both in the flock.
However, I wouldn't leap to Marek's for several reasons:
1. This pullet was vaccinated (yes, not 100%) but
2. EF are naturally resistant to Marek's

So I would lean to Coccidiosis. That can make a bird extremely weak.

Marek's "weakness" generally presents with a trailing paralyzed leg, eye cloudiness (if Ocular) or just general wasting away. Since she is flopping but not paralyzed, again I would lean to Coccidiosis.

Also look for other possible contaminants such as mold or poison (rat being typical).

I'd treat for Coccidiosis and see how that goes. Bloody diarrhea does not always present if the infection is high enough in the intestinal track.

My 2 cents.

I would separate her either way. If it is coccidiosis, you won't want the other birds interacting with her droppings. And I personally would treat for coccidiosis because you cant treat for Mareks so why not. If she gets better, treat everyone for coccidiosis (or preemptively now, up to you).

@Lady of McCamley and @jwehl : Thanks so much for your advice! The EF was feeling better in the afternoon (she scaled a 6 ft concrete wall with a 10 ft drop into my neighbor's yard... ugh). I'll check on her in the coop in the morning since that's probably the only time I'll be able to catch her.

If that is common behavior for her, I would suspect some sort of muscular injury or even small bone fracture. She may have simply strained something!

Good luck with her.
