I bought 4 pullets about 9 weeks ago. They are all about the same age. The red cochin started to crow yesterday morning. It starts at 5.30AM and ends at 6.05AM (at 6.00AM, the automatic door opens). He/ she doesn't crow during the rest of the day. This morning it happened again. But it is not a real laud crow I heard on other roosters. Is it possible that a pullet 'crows' in the morning? He/ she is the boss, from the day I got them, but I don't think he/ she looks really manly for a rooster [IMG]. I was hooping I just got a manly pullet...... Hope you can help.

If it is a cockerel, I can take him back to the breeder. But I love the color, so I hope it's a pullet. And he/ she is really sweet. [IMG]

I think I see some saddle feathers poking through, but it's hard to tell because I can't zoom in on the photos. Could you post a single picture from the side?

Also, are you positive it was crowing, and just not a bunch of squawking?

I'm not 100% positive that it is crowing. But it is very different from the other noises they make. I guess squawking is what they do when a large bird is flying over? That's very different too [IMG].
ps. my camera doesn't take a clear picture today.

[IMG][IMG]. Thank you both for answering. I was afraid he was a cockerel. I can't keep him. So back to the breeder. [IMG][IMG]

You're lucky he waited that long to start crowing. All of my bantam cochin boys started at 6-8 weeks!
