Hi all...I have two chicks born within hours from each other so in turn
came from the same batch of cochin eggs I snagged from a nest of eggs....

my question: can you have 'runts' in chickens??
my camera isn't working right or I'd show a picture but I have 1 chick that
is 1/2 the size of the other chicks...he seems healthy just small...

so, are there 'runts' in the chicken world ???

Yes there are runts. As long as he seems healthy, is growing well, and the others don't pick on him - he should be fine.

    that is so cool....

ok, so I know about feather sexing day old chicks (which I did not do)
can you tell me how to sex week old babies?? or can I ??

would love for this 'runt' chick to be female....
I have a male sultan chick that needs a friend his size...(he's 5 months or so)

Feather sexing can only be done on certain breeds. I am not sure if it works for cochins or not, but by 3 weeks old cochins will start to pink up in the comb if they are a boy.
