How many toes are cochins supposed to have? We have one with 4 and one with 5 toes.

They should not have the extra toe (polydactyly). My guess would be there is a silkie or faverolle crossed in there somewhere.

Quote:Figures. Our order of 15 frizzle cochins came with 4 flat feathered and 2 frazzles, and obviously at least one with extra toes. And to top it all off 6 of them were roos. My mom ordered them for my daughter through the feed store so I dont know what hatchery they came from, but WOW!

[IMG] Yes, sadly most hatcheries don't go by the rule of frizzle x smooth to prevent the frazzle/curlies. And they don't weed out chicks with incorrect #s of toes. The ones that shouldn't have extras sometimes have them and the ones that should have extra toes like silkies usually are missing some!

This is Jerry. He is by far the curliest thing I have ever seen. Soft like a teddy bear [IMG]

Really cute! He's lucky alot of curlies wind up with way too few feathers and are mostly bald except for some brittle feathers. Not sure what makes the difference. But THAT is neat. [IMG]
