I currently have 5 chicks that were hatched May 20, so are close to 3 months old. I'm having a hard time telling the sex of some of them. They're all just mixed breeds so it's harder than it was with my first batch that I managed to sex all on my own!

This one totally looks like a cockerel, my 3 year old even switched the name she gave it from "Sweetypie" to "Roostel bedoostel" 🤣 His small size is throwing me off, but it's probably just his small mom's genes because that's definitely a rooster face!
IMG_20220809_195531773.jpg The dark barred rock looking one has a small comb, but it's really red so I'm thinking cockerel for sure. And the grey one between the white and barred rock one I'm not sure on... Lighter comb makes me hope female...

IMG_20220809_195916457.jpg this one looks like a pullet to me but again I'm not sure. IMG_20220809_195648081.jpg And this one I'm also not sure. It looks like a male barred rock because it's lighter colored, but it's possibly mixed with a lavender Orpington or some other light hen and has a lighter comb, so I don't know about it! For what it's worth, my 10 year old daughter thinks that they are all cockerels, but I'm holding out hope for a couple pullets at least. IMG_20220809_195622584.jpg

I thought dark barred are female?
It's not a pure barred rock, so only has one of the barring genes. That's my understanding at least. I was convinced that one was a female purebred early on, until my daughter pointed out the pea comb and that he actually has puffy cheeks. So definitely a boy, mixed with one of my Easter Eggers.
