A couple years ago a hen of mine squeezed out her own oviduct and the other chickens pulled it off her before I could figure out what had happened or what I should do, and sadly we had to put her down. Now I've come across information that says cod liver oil could prevent such a thing, especially for younger egg-layers whose body maturity maybe hadn't caught up with the bred in need to produce eggs. Has anyone used it?

I was having problems with a hen laying a soft egg at night. I was told to give them a little cod liver oil to help get them in sync. Since i have been giving them a little cod liver oil occasionally I have not had any problems. The oil has vitamins a & d that are needed for production. I was also told that it would help prevent some egg laying disorders....
