I have a Muscovyduck setting on a dozen eggs due to hatch in three days. She's under an upside down heavy rubber pool with a door cut in it. It's dry and has straw. With the strange weather it's supposed to get down in the twenties for the next few nights. Can she handle it or should I finish up in an incubator or any other suggestions?

I wouldn't take the eggs away from her. They have been hatching alot longer than us. As long as you can put food and water under with them they all should be fine. Ducklings hatched by mama ducks are much hardier than we give them credit for. So if she brings them out and you notice any struggling to keep up then you intervene those are the ones to worry about.

Yeah, Momma Birds are the best incubators and Brooders....They will not let the Duckings get cold.....She will talk to them and keep them tucked under her......Food and water close by and they will be fine.......

    Good luck...:)

    Cheers!

I understand you totally.......I worry more if its me who has to look after them.....The Mothers actually do a way better job....Keep and eye on them to make sure her hormones are high enough to Mother them....If all looks good after 24 hours ? she will be a fantastic Mother......

Best wishes......Try not to interfere too much or Momma can become stressed...... ;)

    Cheers!

I will keep you up to date. She was sitting on her own infertile eggs so I switched them out with khaki's that I ordered so that already lowers the hatch rate a little. But hopefully Wednesday we will hatch something.

Well the babies are hatching, I felt just to see if the eggs were warm and felt a little fuzzy head. I gave her some more straw put a tarp over the whole thing and put a lean to over the door to block the wind it's gonna get down to twenty five the next two nights.

The ducks are hatching. I felt just to make sure the eggs were warm and felt a little fuzzy head. A little extra straw a tarp and a lean to over the door should keep the wind out. Gonna be 25 tonight.
