Hi! We just had one of our Silkie Bantam hens hatch out 5 new beautiful chicks. I would love your input on what colors you think they are. I have guesses but would like to hear other’s opinions! The hen is a Blue Partridge Silkie & the roo a Silver Berchem Silkie. Here’s the babies. Thanks 🥰

They will be mixed for color.

The darker, solid colored chicks- I'm guessing you have two blues, one black. The adults will have silver or gold leakage, or both.

The paler blue one is will be blue, with leakage as well.

By leakage I mean females may have brown or silver specks on the body feathers, and will probably have reddish or silvery stripes or lacing on the neck feathers, and males will have reddish or silver on the neck, saddle and shoulder feathers.

The brownish bird will probably be similar to partridge.

Very interesting, thank you so much for your reply! How do you determine if they will have leakage, does that depend on the color of the parents?

I'm just giving my best guesses. A genetics calculator would probably give better answers, or the genetics forums. But the dark birds should be like the father, who is birchen, you say. That means they'll be dark but like him, will have other colors mixed in. And since the hen is partridge I think it is possible that some gold might be mixed in, although silver is more likely. Maybe leakage wasn't the best way to put it. The brownish chick looks a lot like a partridge chick so I am guessing that it will look similar as an adult. But time will tell.
