Hello there and welcome to BYC! [IMG]

I believe, with the exception of blue eggs, all eggs are white until the bloom and pigment is put on at the end of the lay. Blue eggs are truly blue. But brown eggs are white to start with and the added color is put on last. For what ever reason, egg layers that lay white eggs do not have this pigmentation. With wild birds, there is added pigment for camouflage in the nest to confuse predators. Some chickens may still carry these genes for camouflage.

You might also ask this question in our Egg Laying forums for more input..https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/18/chicken-behaviors-and-egglaying

    Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC, again. Glad you decided to join our flock. TwoCrows has done a great job in answering your question so I'll just say, please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Do you have colored egg layers (EEs, Ameraucanas, Araucanas, or Cream Legbars?).
