This years breeding projects and new acquisitions have turned
up quite a variety of combs, including one I cant identify!
Also gender guesses? (my guesses in parenthesis by the bird #)

No idea on this one! Any ideas?

Silkie Momma I just got with her three chicks.
I think this is a rose comb (in expression at least)
being pushed forward by the crest and some vaulting.
It has three little spikes at the back. According to the
standard of perfection for clean faced silkies this is
exactly what it should be even if she isn't show quality ;)
Her wattles are a little misshapen though and given the
outcomes of her chicks I suspect both
pea and single comb genes must be present :(

    Rose comb.

This is silkie baby, the first.
Perfect little rose comb with three tiny spikes at back.

    Single comb. Go figure.

Silkie baby, the second is a bit of a throw back, lol.

    Pea comb.
    [IMG]#4 (?) 6 weeks
Silkie baby, the third and his/her perfect little pea comb.
All from the same pair! Talk about a dukes mixture.

This is Ceasar the mutt. (I think he may be a she)
I think this is a "carnation" comb with an extra side sprig.

Single comb, obviously. Only had a couple of these,
which is fine since I'm aiming for pea combs or similar.

And pea combs! Though I wonder if the top one could
more accurately be considered a strawberry comb?

And this one looks to me like a pea comb with some trifid goin' on there.
It almost looks like a rose comb but that isn't possible given the parents.
I wonder if it could be a form of buttercup given how the center row is almost absent?

@ b-hromada : thanks but I got one wrong! The silkie chick that looks like it has a single comb turns out to have a pea comb with a prominent center row. Couldn't tell until it got its crest wet lol!

Had an egg turn up fertile today. Which is a bit of a shock since I hadn't thought I had any roosters. I thought I had two upcoming hens. Obviously I was wrong, lol!

I believe this must be the culprit. He's no crowing yet but that one tail feather is awfully long.

The flock is all assembled now except one. Awaiting the arrival of the granddaughter of blue berry buckle. She was at the family farm to grow out for the summer and fall but she'll be home soon. :)
