Hi any thoughts about putting a compost heap inside the chicken run divided off in one corner?

The compost needs to be fermented a bit before chickens use it too much. You will also be attracting a lot of mice and rats if you keep it in the run or too close to the coop.

We started composting in our run this year, and are absolutely thrilled with the results.

Welcome to BYC. Understand that chickens love to work compost piles, but they will spread the compost all over the pen.

That's for sure! We use a deep litter method, so composting in the run works for us. [IMG]
