Hi everyone! I am searching for some advice. My polish roo is 1 year old. He has been congested and coughing for a week. No nasal drainage or eye drainage that I notice, just a rattly cough. Ive been giving him antibiotics in his water, but he still is rattling so I just got some Tylan 50 at Tractor Supply. Ive injected him twice today so far with 0.5 cc's. Am I doing the right thing??? He does appear to have lost some weight in the last week. Not sure what else to do for him. I was supposed to show him in the fair, but now cant because I dont want to get anyone else sick or any of my others sick. Thanks!

I would continue the treatment with the Tylan, give it a few days to work and he should clear up. Though I don't remember if the dose is once a day or twice a day. Whatever this is he has may be viral or bacterial, if it's viral the Tylan won't cure it but it will help prevent secondary bacterial infections and pneumonia. When he recovers he will most likely still be a carrier so I would not ever show this bird again. If you have other birds that he lives with they have most likely been exposed as well since they are contagious before they show visible symptoms that we can see.
