Hello !!
I have a constipated chickie, she is 2 weeks old. At first, she had pasty butt, and i puth warm cloth last night to clean it. Her butt hole seems swollen.

this morning the swelling subsided a little but when I touched the behind, she screamed.
She eats and drinks and sleeps alright. I put ACV in her water. However, just now I noticed a bit of gasping. I kept waking her up, and she finally pooped! The poop is very sticky and I used toilet paper to wipe her butt.
Here is the picture. Is it blood????

She is now eating and jumping happily after poop. I hope she is holding on! She is a trooper, she was almost gone once!

What i wanna know:
-why the gasping??
-what caused the constipation? Pasty butt?
-why the poop has that string of red substance? What is it?
-is this life theeatening?
-what shouls i do?????

Right now she seems fine. But i am afraid to go to sleep and find her dead in the morning!
Help!

I assume the chicks are in a brooder and not on soil, is that correct?

I get probiotics in them early and they don't get pasty butt any more.
You can use plain yogurt with active cultures with the food mixed in.
Pet shops probably have an avian probiotic powder.

I use this and it goes into the chicks first water.

Thank you. I will do this. Yes they are in brooder inside the bathroom.

A little apple cider vinegar in their water and use a little vegetable oil wiped on vent area and you'll be cleared up in no time.
