Cooling the coop

My chickens, having forgotten the bitter cold of winter, and not at all pleased with the current heat wave. I built my new coop with good ventilation and passive cooling. I added misters to the pens. But still, they are slow roasting in the Texas heat.

This week I painted the coop roof white. Oh the chickeny joy!

Now they hang out inside the coop for the hottest part of the day.

In the old days they used to put ice in a shallow container in front of the fan before A/C but at 100'+ I don't know how long a block of ice would last.

At a kennel I worked at, we put a sprinkler on the roof and a couple of times a day we would.d turn it on to cool the roof. It made a big difference inside(while the roof was damp)
