I was wondering what people thought about using a garden soil, gravel, dirt mix as the bedding/litter for the coop floor. I have a floor that is 3' x4'. I live in Hawaii where it is pretty warm for most of the year so I don't think the insulation factor of bedding should matter. It is also not very economical to get pine or wood shavings here either. Does anyone have any experience with using this as a litter? Would it be able to absorb moisture from the poop? I do plan to sift through the mix weekly to take out the poop and throw it in the garden.
Any advice or suggestions appreciated!

Sand might work better. It is probably easier to clean and would be absorbent. I would not use gravel. I think you will find it does not add anything and just gets in the way when you are trying to clean.

I would not throw the poop directly on the garden. It needs to be composted first as it will burn the plants. Once it composts, it is great for the garden.
