I have a 5X8 coop and I have used the deep pine shaving bedding method. I have on a couple of occasions sprinkled DE and Seven5% powder but as I am new to this, I really don't know the correct amount to mix with the shavings. Does anyone have an idea how much approx. per square foot and how often. I am so afraid of overdoing it. It is the food quality DE. I appreciate any ideas you can give me. Thanks in advance. Also, if it makes any difference, they are out side in a large pen all day at this time of year.

I would take a cup or two and just sprinkle it around the coop. I would also put a bit into their feed every month or so. I've heard it helps with worms, etc. and I've never had a problem with any insect pests at all. Just sprinkle a small amount in on top of the pellets. Then you don't have to keep spreading it in the coop because they poop it out. It helps keep down both the smell and the flies.
