How large of a coop will I need for 13 hens and a Roo?

I have seen the square footage for each chicken on here but can not recall it, however my question on that is this, if each chicken needs 4 square feet of coop then is that actual floor space or overall space inside?

I would allow 4 sq feet per large breed bird, 2 sq feet for small breeds. I also allow 2 or 4 sq feet for food, and waterer. this equates to a coop 8 foot X 8 foot. Use exterior mounted nesting boxes, and lots of light, and you will have a very happy gang there! good luck!

8x8 would be a great size for 14 birds! Make sure that the coop has light and is well ventilated.
