Coop Size

Is a 3x4 coop large enough for 6 hens? I am new at chickens and just bought my first chicks and want to make sure I give them enough room since we live in the north country. Thanks for advice and this site. I have learned so much...

In the coop they need 4sqft per bird and the run is 10sqft per bird

Good to know. I was curious myself as to how big our coop should be. We haven't got any chicks yet but I want to start with 6 and maybe have 12 eventually.We have an old shed made out of corrugated metal that we plan to tear down and use the scrap for our coop; the run will, of course, be constructed of wood and chicken wire.

Thanks for the info I decided to build a coop with run 10 x 10 in case I get addicted and want to add more....
