    I bought a package of Corid 20%

How much in the water for 1 week old baby chicks?

I found a loose poop with some red in it and have one chick that's not as lively as the rest.

They're on non-medicated feed and allowed to free range with Momma Hen during the day.

Corid powder dosage is 1 1/2 teaspoonsful per gallon, while Corid liquid dosage is 2 teaspoonsful per gallon, for 5 days. Give some probiotics or plain yogurt, and some poultry vitamins when they finish the Corid.

Thank you. I put 3/4 tsp to 1/2 gallon water so I can change daily w/out too much waste. I only have two hens and 5 chicks. I will keep the chicks and their mom locked in the coop/run so it's the only water source accessible to them. That's the dosage for the 20% power, correct?

That is correct. Make sure they are drinking well.

Was I wrong in thinking this warranted treatment for coccidiosis?

Are you sure that's the correct dosage? Chicken chick says 1/2 tsp to a gallon & it says 1/2 tsp on the bag too. I'm currently treating a sick chick as well & there's not been much improvement. Tonight one in the older flock died suddenly as well. Have I not been dosing correctly & killing my birds?

Corid is a cattle medicine used off label for chickens. Several years ago people widely used 1/2 tsp of the powder, but someone on BYC measured it in grams for accuracy, and now most people use 1 1/2 tsp of the powder, and 2 tsp of the liquid Corid per gallon. Casportpony has a Corid chart for preventative and severe outbreak doses if you search at the top of this page. Corid is very safe to use, and difficult to overdose.

Thanks for the info. I immediately increased the dosage so hopefully things will improve. This is so stressful! Next time I'll check here first.

It looks like water with uric acid crystals, and some stringy bloody mucus. Good to hear that they are doing well.
