Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

A good majority of the cases in my city all started in 3 funerals. Not sure when those funerals took place, but it’s good to know that it was concentrated for the most part and not just random. But we’ve already been issued an order starting tomorrow no more out and about for people who are still wandering the streets.

My question is: what happens to the homeless? They don’t have a home to shelter in place.
In new Orleans they are being put in a hotel and cabins at a state park

Another thing they are doing here in Massachusetts and I’m sure in other states is recruiting for people who have the needed skills and those willing to be trained to help out in support roles. If I wasn’t in the high risk “group” I would be out there. The best thing I can do personally is to stay healthy and not have to use any medical care right now. If anyone here has the soundness of body to pitch in, please do.

Covid-19 is why I have chickens. We had always toyed with the idea of stealth urban homesteading in our private fenced back yard, and when this came rushing up to meet us in Florida, we had to go into immediate quarantine as all three of us in my family are immunocompromised. So we called our local shop, and arranged an order for our friend to deliver to us. Everything has to be set up right the first time, as we haven’t left the house in almost 3 weeks, but the chicks have only been here for 3 days. It’s gonna be a wild ride.

I ordered all of the supplies to build the coop yesterday, maybe two hours before our governor called for our state to be locked down. I’m genuinely concerned the supplies may not be delivered, so I bought a coop on sale to be safe and make sure we had /something/. The coop order was canceled by the company. Here’s hoping the supply order maintains, or we are gonna be really creative with whatever is in the garage. 😂

I never thought it would go down like this, but I also know that I am the queen of preparing for the worst at the last minute.

Well if you have chicks they will probably stay in a brooder at least a month.

Technical University Delft did research on re-use face masks and Corona viruses. Its safe to re-use them after 15 minutes on a temp of 121*C. re-use no more than 5 times.

THANKS! I've already sent that to my daughter.

I'm ironing my cotton surgical-style mask on the "linen" setting after each trip outside.

Same here. The dark red sticky setting cement, slick as snot when wet, stain everything it touches kind...

Compost will fix that! As annoying as clay is, it's also richly organic so if you interrupt it's tiny close-fitting grains with more complex compost you get some really awesome arable soil.

That's a big problem here in Los Angeles. Various factors including but not limited to the astronomical price of housing have greatly exacerbated homelessness. It's migrated even into affluent areas.

The city had already been working on it. We have 1500 hotel rooms and other accommodations set aside for homeless folk but a great many of them are resistant to abandoning their way of life. It may not make sense to us, but it does to a large number of them. And so they congregate in small villages under overpasses and behind commercial buildings.

Covid will go through those populations like wild fire. But, sadly, authorities don't know how to appeal to them.

There is no better time than this to point out the mistakes that have been and are being made in real time that are killing people. Knowledge is power

Alas! I agree with both you and Wee Farmer Sarah completely.

I have no wish to bicker. But alarms are ringing soooo loudly. How do you stand by and watch a fire go out of control and not react?
